The New Black Conservative Movement

Hey, I’m Markeece Young. I’m 19 from North Carolina. I was Democrat for pretty much all my life, if you would have told me I would be apart of the “New Black Conservative Movement” a couple years ago would probably laugh at you. A new Gallup Poll shows that 26% of Black voters are Conservative. So why aren’t 26% of Blacks voting for Conservative candidates? Can you imagine if 26% of Blacks voted Conservative? Democrats wouldn’t win locally, statewide or nationally. I believe that the Republican Party and other Conservative groups have basically given up on the Black vote. I know with Blacks voting 95% for Obama, why should we even bother, right? Because the biggest revolutions and political shifts didn’t happen overnight; it took an effort. It’s going to take a lot of hard work. The Black Conservative movement is stronger than ever, but we need support. Contrary to what you might believe, reaching Black voters is an achievable goal.

Just an example: Rick Scott did a lot of minority engagement in Florida and that is actually how he won. The numbers showed that if Scott had not received a substantial amount of Black and Hispanic votes, he would have lost. Rick Scott has been a huge supporter of school choice which allows disadvantaged children to go to good, quality schools. He received nearly triple the amount of votes in 2014 than he received in 2010 from Black voters. It was an increase in votes from 34,000 to 95,000. I always reference this election when people tell me that the Black voters ears are shut or that courting Black voters is a lost cause. Rick Scott wasn’t afraid to visit Black communities and it paid off in his re-election.

Last Saturday, Fox News Contributor and Conservative activist Deneen Borelli led a Black Conservative empowerment program in my home state of North Carolina. Luckily, I was asked to be a panelist at this event. The seats filled quickly. There were a large number of African-Americans, both young and old. People of all different races showed up to this great event of empowerment. I was very nervous, especially since I was sitting on a panel with the Civil Rights legend Clarence Henderson. He was one of the original Civil Rights activists that defied segregation laws in the Greensboro sit-ins during the 1960’s. Although I was extremely anxious, I only received good reviews from the people who attended. There were so many people there who wanted to change things in the Black community for the better.

Black Conservatives across this great country are reaching out to Black communities. I would like to name a few in this article. Deneen Borelli is going across this country empowering the Black community. There are courageous men like Derrick Wilburn and Kevin Jackson to Babette Holder in Illinois, who is changing things there in the Black community. Young, Black Conservative Cecilia Johnson of Missouri created Hood Conservatives, they are dedicated to reaching out those in urban areas. There is also the Fredrick Douglas Foundation and The Black Conservative Fund. To the great and enlightened writings of my friends and young Black Conservatives Josiah McElroy and Antoine Pearson–and let us not forget about the 12-year-old activist from Georgia, CJ Pearson! But we need help. We need people like the GOP to launch serious initiatives and not just show up at Black doors every four years.
We need the GOP and grassroots Conservative groups to help empower the Black community to come out of their allegiance to the Democratic Party. I believe with this new poll coming out, showing nearly a quarter of Black voters being Conservative, it would be a tremendous missed opportunity for Conservative/Republican groups to not tap into a relatively immense untapped potential.

We need to educate and empower the Black community to be more independent. We have to go out there and educate Blacks on the racist past of the Democrat Party and show them how Liberal policies have crippled the Black community. We have to show them how Conservative policies are opening the window of opportunity that the Democratic Party has shut in the Black community for 50 years.

As Conservatives, we spread the message of economic freedom and the values of hard work, so why not take this message to a community that desperately needs it now more than ever? It’s no secret that the Obama administration is crippling Black America greatly. Black unemployment is at very high levels and the youth employment rate is even higher. Many Blacks today believe that their American Dream is being denied and for several people today, it has turned into more of a nightmare. It’s our job to go into these communities and tell people that it’s not Conservative Republicans denying them of their dream its Liberalism and big government. Will you join the New Black Conservative Movement? Will the Republican Establishment join the New Movement? Or will both the Black Community and the Republican Establishment continue with their status quo?

  1. Your comments are encouraging, Markeece. A man who was thought to have great promise once said “We don’t live in a black America and a white America. We live in the United States of America!” Unfortunately, you can take the man out of community organizing, but you can’t take the community organizer out of the man!
Democrats have always been inordinately concerned with accumulating power because power allows them to pursue self interest and fend off efforts to uncover corruption. Why do they have so many disparate dysfunctional voting blocks? Why don’t they sell a path to self determination? Why do they support individual activities that lead to dependence and victimhood? The ugly truth is that they need their voters acting out as agitated victims so they can declare a false narrative and maintain their base.
You and the Borellis and the other truly enlightened people you mentioned are the patriots leading the charge toward emancipation from the evils of the democrat’s selfish manipulation of many of their voters.
Republicans must escape from their defeatist belief that they have to do what democrats do to win elections! The conservative message resonates when it’s fought for! Conservatives must unify and aggressively counter the sly, deceptive, vicious criticism and ridicule from the shameless left.
Where there will always be differences of opinion, we must dedicate to core values and Godly principles.
Alinsky democrats have learned to subordinate their individual differences in a unified quest for power. Their tools and tactics are to be marveled at, but their values, morals, & ethics are to be scorned!
Conservatives must generate a defining moment where they confirm the values, principles, morals, and ethics that all success oriented, God loving people will willingly and enthusiastically embrace. Then, they must stand united and confound the power hungry, self centered left.
The republicans message will prevail when it is inculcated by an energized socio-political movement.
Keep fighting the good fight. You are on the side of righteousness. God bless

  2. Markeece, I am with you on this. I just read that 34,000 Black churches left Presbyterian (USA) Church because of their weak beliefs about marriage between a man and a woman. There are 100s of thousands of Black Conservative Christian voters that I believe will rise up and recognize the value of families, hard work, and education and how these values are real conservative issues. I believe they are beginning to see what the Liberals have done with Planned Parenthood to destroy millions of African American babies. The percentage of Black babies aborted is profoundly higher than Whites compared to the population of each group. This is a tragedy to our Black population. Welfare programs have robbed people of a will to succeed. Just look at statistics of the Native Canadians. They were placed on Reserves and given Welfare. They have the highest percent of teen suicides in the world as well as rampant alcoholism among teens and adults. Welfare programs can be good on a short time basis to give someone time to find a job or relocate to a place where there are jobs but there should be a time limit on this.

Thanks for your work in winning people over to a conservative view.

  3. It is exciting, Markeece, just to think about 26% of blacks identifying as conservative! As you say so well in your article, those 26% voting for our Republican candidate would change this country! Thank you for this well written and well thought out article! You are truly inspiring!

  4. Dear Markeece,
You are an amazingly refreshing inspiration, not just to the black community but all races! I feel very frustrated when I read comments written to black conservatives and the hatred that is unleashed upon them is detestable! I applaud your efforts in reaching out and letting people know the Conservative party needs to embrace and educate minority groups NOW! I am sick and tired of the so called black activists that show up and spew out hate based blather to get people riled up for causes that DO NOT in any way shape or form help them! This country needs individuals like you Markeece and Deneen Borelli to keep standing up and spreading your messages so eloquently and with true integrity! Thank you for your courage, words of wisdom and self-determination to personify a transformation that is whole heartedly needed!!!

    Sincerely,
    Renee’ Shepherd

  5. Thank you for speaking out on these issues. I am really enjoying going through your blog posts. I’m more or less (small l) libertarian by inclination these days, and I think anyone who speaks out to break the nasty cycle of identity politics and economic coercion that seem to have taken over all of our political discourse these days is to be admired and applauded.

  8. The most important thing is that your voice and the voice of your generation speaks the truth and encourages free thinking, bright, motivated, spirited, determined young folks to reject the dogma of the left wing manipulators. Too many black youth have been brainwashed into believing they should not believe in anything except the mantra that there is no life of joy or peace if they don’t cling to the government’s control of their lives. So they succumb to that hopeless and destructive way of thinking. They turn against themselves and become filled with self loathing, then begin to turn that loathing against others. Your job is to uplift their spirits, encourage them to spread their wings, think outside the box and BELIEVE that their lives have value and meaning and that the GOP is not against them but FOR them. That the strength of the family is a good thing, that taking responsibility for fathering children is a good thing, that finishing school and waiting to have babies until you are in stable relationships is good thing, that working two jobs to get ahead is okay and that reading investment journals, foreign news sites and expanding horizons are ALL good things. Spread the message, lead by example, get out there and get into those inner cities and TALK about the fact that there is a big beautiful world out there that needs them to be a valuable contributor too. Stay strong, be true to your heart and align the energies and be relentless in shattering the negative voices that have been placed in black people;s heads by control freaks of the left wing establishment. Bless you, brother.
